Because my website mainly appeals to fellow mamas, I felt compelled to write a post that acknowledged how Mother’s Day can elicit a range of emotions.
On this day I want to acknowledge the experiences of women who:
- Struggle with infertility
- Have young children
- Are foster moms
- Have experienced miscarriage
- Serve as “mom” for others
- Have difficult or non-existent relationships with their children
- Have had a failed adoption
- Gave birth to their first child
- Experienced the death of a child
- Have close relationships with their children
- Had an abusive mother
- Are empty-nesters
- Have a challenging child
- No longer have their mother
- Had an abortion
- Step-moms
- Are motherless by choice
- Have teenagers
- Have placed a child up for adoption
- Are single and dream of becoming a mother
Whether Mother’s Day makes you happy, sad, angry, regretful, proud, lonely or a combination of these, I wanted to let you know that your experience is recognized. I hope you are able to find joy on Mother’s Day even if your experience is not celebrated on a greeting card.
Best wishes,
Cheryl
