Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Review

Wausau Mama’s Review:

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum (LYWAM) is one of my favorite places to go with my kids. If you’re looking for somewhere calm and relaxing to take your young children on a cold or rainy weekday morning, this is it.

My kids and I usually head straight to the basement (stairs or elevator) to play in Art Park. Art Park is an area with books, bins of toys, magnet puzzles, crafts, and other child appropriate activities based on a theme (birds, instruments, etc.). There is a family bathroom with a changing table right in Art Park. It is spacious enough to accommodate strollers and safe enough to give parents a chance to relax.

I have also enjoyed taking my kids to some of the programs offered at the LYWAM. We have gone to Art Babies (0-18mo) and Art Time (18mo-4yrs) for Tots. You have to register for these programs and they fill up fast. The other option for young children is Toddler Tuesday (18mo-4yrs) which does not require pre-registration. They also have programs for older children and adults. For their activity calendar, click here.

When the weather is nice kids love to walk (or run) around the Sculpture Garden. Make sure to let your kids say ‘hi’ to the hippo and frog.
