The Wausau area has many fun summer camps for kids! Here are your options for 2023 – sponsored by the Wausau Conservatory of Music:

Wausau Conservatory of Music

A Summer Day with Music Together: June 15 – Session 1 | July 13 – Session 2 – One-day session of Music Together. Music Together® is a family-centered approach to early childhood music based on child and music development research. Because we know most young children learn through imitation and play, Music Together classes provide families opportunities to joyfully make music together. Ages up to 3 yr 6 mo.

June 19-23: String Orchestra Camp – For grades 6-12 who can read music. Large and small ensemble instruction to challenge students at a personal level. A fast-paced fun week for string players with a variety of activities throughout the week.

June 19-29: Kids on Keys – A comprehensive musical experience for children. With a piano emphasis, children gain a heightened curiosity about music and enthusiasm for the piano. Age 4-7.

June 26-29: The Science of Music, with Snapshot Science – Each day will be filled with the wonders of music from a scientific perspective. Campers will enjoy exploring music by creating sounds, building simple instruments and models, performing controlled experiments, making music, and more. Grades 1-6.

July 17-20: Scouting Music Badge Camp – Earn your Scouting Music Badge! Classes will take place at the Scouting Building on Camp Phillips Road in Wausau. Grades 4-12.

July 17-21: Kids VOICE Theatre Camp – With an emphasis on voice and using the music from the upcoming CWETA winter musical production, students will explore their voice, body, and imagination to learn the art of musical theatre! Ages 7-9.

July 24-28: Musical Theatre VOCAL Camp for Tweens – Learn how to project your voice, how to bring a character alive, and how to have poise and confidence when auditioning and performing. Grades 5-8.

July 31-August 4: Musical Theatre VOICE Camp – Work on solo vocal production and presentation skills in a nurturing environment. Create a character with your voice. Build constructive habits for strong vocal technique. Grades 9-12.


Boys & Girls Club of the Wausau Area

Center for the Visual Arts: ARTventure Camp

Our week-long camps, feature individual and collaborative projects in a multitude of mediums, and an opportunity to experience the life of a working artist. Camps take place in professional grade art studios and gallery spaces, where creativity, critical thinking skills and self-expression are fostered through a team of experienced art educators.


Clay Corner Studio, LLC

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc: Camp Birch Trails

Camp Birch Trails is our beautiful 240-acre resident camp in Northern Wisconsin. Birch Trails surrounds private Lake Olivotti with a sandy beach, swim and boating dock, and a Mermaid bridge that connect the main area of camp to our Low Ropes course. We also have a floating bog and island for primitive camping to explore.

It also features a Graebel Lodge with electricity, bathrooms, showers, and kitchen, Outlook cabins with electricity with access to our updated shower house and bathrooms and Yurt Village with access to pit toilets, Maple cabins with no electricity, and access to pit toilets and platform tents with no electricity and access to pit toilets.

Our large dining hall serves up to 140 campers at a time with a large deck for games and activities. Other activities in camp include Low Ropes teambuilding course, Archery range, Gaga pit and 9 square, ginormous playfield for various games, hammocking area, and canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and corcls for the lake. Maple lodge provides space for our arts and crafts activities like tie-dye, candle making, wood burning, and more! Oak observatory is our newest building at camp for all of our Nature and Science activities.

Camp Birch Trails is an ACA (American Camp Association) accredited camp. The ACA logo is your assurance that our camp is fully invested in understanding and implementing policies that reflect industry-recognized standards in health, safety, and risk management camp operations. Accredited camps are willing to have their operations scrutinized and reviewed by camp professionals who know and value quality camps.


Greenheck Field House: Everest Adventure Camp

Ages: 4-12 years old

Whether you are considering a week or two of summer camp or a full summer of care, our camp is filled with fun, excitement and adventure. We also provide half day care after summer school for DC Everest students. We strive to nurture campers in a challenging and supportive environment where their safety and well-being is our top priority. Campers experience ice skating, swimming, rock climbing and weekly field trips. Everest Adventure Care offers 12 weeks of summer fun.

You can choose to attend one week of the summer or all summer long. Adventure Care is open to all outside and area residents. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack is provided daily.


Monk Botanical Gardens: Summer Camp in the Gardens

Summer Camp in the Gardens offers children a unique outdoor experience. We offer a variety of themed, hands-on activities tailored to a specific age camper. Activities are developmentally appropriate, educationally relevant, and most importantly fun! At the Gardens, campers will be able to learn about relevant environmental subjects through hands-on activities, work together with their peers, and spend time outdoors!


Wausau/Marathon County Park, Recreation, and Forestry: Outdoor Adventure

This program is designed to reconnect kids to the outdoors. In this day and age so many kids are spending too much time behind screens and not enough time outdoors. This program emphasizes outdoor education and environmental science to create a fun and educational experience for your child.


Woodson YMCA: Camp Sturtevant

Great Summers Start at the Y! Summer is a time for kids to be kids. YMCA Day Camps are the place to make every precious summer day a great one! At Camp Sturtevant we believe the framework of our youth is creating experiences that build character, confidence and friendship.


CWCT Summer Drama Camp

Dates: 7/18/2022 – 7/22/2022

Ages: 8-18 years old Cost: $150

Youth Camp for ages 8-12: A week of fun, learning and theater. Activities include crafts, drama games, music, exploration of all areas of theater as well as studying what makes a fairy tale fractured. We will look at Shrek, Twinderella, Into the Woods and others. Students will get to write their own Fractured Fairy tale! We will also include some Reader’s Theater and short skits each day, with one being performed on Friday.

Teen Camp for ages 13-18: There is so much more to theater than just acting. CWCT is offering a week of daily workshops just for teens on different areas of theater. After the workshop each day get ready for some hilariousness as we rehearse the One Act Comedy, The Hysterical History of the Trojan War which will be performed Friday. The Farce is Strong with this Script!


Dancy Art Camp

Dates: 7/11/2022 – 7/28/2022

Ages: 7-12 years old Cost: $125-$175 (Families choose the pricing tier that’s best for them.)

Summer 2022 offers three weeklong (M-Th) sessions. The camp day runs from 10am to 4pm and campers bring their own lunch/snacks. There is a carpool opt-in when registering. Sign up today on our website!

7/18 – 7/22 3D Printing Camp: 3D printing is the future, and you can see it in action during this camp! Learn about how this amazing technology is changing the world. Take home customized 3D prints each day of camp. (Ages 8-12)

7/25 – 7/30 Aeronautics Camp: Join us for a high-flying adventure as we explore airplanes and flight! Discover the past, present and future of aviation, practice flight simulation and get your very own pilot’s wings. (Ages 8-12)

7/15 – 7/17 Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics: There’s no substitute for nature! Together we can protect it from impacts like overuse, trash, and harming endangered wildlife. No matter where or why you get outside, it’s yours to protect. Join us for an engaging and fun weekend and learn how! ($200) (Ages 10-12)

Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum – Agri-Cultured: Summer Art Sessions for Children

Plant-Powered Design: Ages 9-12, Thursday & Friday, July 14 & 15 from 9 am – Noon
Budding artists will create large-scale sculptures inspired by seeds and spores. Inspired by this summer’s “”Abundant Future”” botanical art exhibition, Art Session participants harvest ideas in the galleries that take root in the Sculpture Garden studio and grow into collaborative and independent botanical creations. Micro-Greens Make Macro-Art: Ages 5-8, Tuesday & Wednesday, July 12 & 13 from 9 am – Noon

Stevens Point Area YMCA: YMCA Peters Family Camp Glacier Hollow

These are not your typical classes found in your public summer school programs.
