Vicki Resech, Interim Executive Director – MCDEVCO, Inc.
What do you do?
I manage the economic development efforts of Marathon County and provide loan administration for the City of Wausau, Marathon County, and Private Foundations through MCDEVCO, Inc., a 501(c) 3. This includes leading an initiative to develop and implement a comprehensive economic development plan for Marathon County.
I’m also the primary economic development contact in Marathon County which means I respond to the inquiries and needs of individual entrepreneurs, mature businesses, participating communities, public agencies and government officials. I represent and promote Marathon County and the Wausau region by fostering the creation of new businesses, and encouraging business relocations and expansions.
I maintain an active relationships with local, state, and federal officials and economic development organizations and introduce programs that result in the continued development of business infrastructure throughout Marathon County.
What education, classes or training were helpful to you?
Education never ends if you want to stay current and keep your skills fresh. I started with an associates degree in Architectural Residential Design and never looked back.
I have training/classes as an internal auditor, banking, accounting, IT/Programming, Photoshop/design, and photography. I own my own photography business, have a blog (believereflectconnect.com) have been a volunteer EMT/Firefighter, and am certified as an equine massage therapist.
If there is something that you want to achieve/accomplish and you don’t have the skills/training, then go out and learn them!
Why did you choose this sort of work?
I have a great faith in God and believe that if we get out of the way, He will put us just where we need to be. My work at MCDEVCO is a combination of education, experience from past jobs, training, and being able to put it all together to accomplish an assortment of tasks. I am a big picture person with the skills to carry it out.
What do you like best about your work?
I enjoy being able to assist entrepreneurs throughout Marathon County achieve their dream of owning their own businesses and being their own boss.
What advice would you give girls who want to get into your field?
Never stop learning. The world and the work environment is always changing, and you also have to be able to change and be flexible. By continuing to learn and stay educated with schooling and job experience you can stay ahead of what is needed. If you are just reacting to your job for today, you will never see the future.
Dream, have goals, don’t let others tell you who you are, and remember only you can decide how you shine!
Everyday make a conscious decision to be better than yesterday. Know that if you want to succeed it takes hard work and determination. Always being willing to give someone else a hand up and/or mentor them. No one gets to where they are without the assistance, mentoring, and the kindness of someone else.
