Stephanie Lopez
Owner – Wooster’s Garage
What do you do?
We offer automotive repair and services to our local community. We also offer monthly auto clinics to those interested in learning more about different topics about their vehicles and their vehicles needs.
What education, classes or training were helpful to you?
I have been studying in automotive classes since I was in high school and graduated from NTC with my Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. I have taken additional courses over the last 15 years in a variety of topics to stay updated and trained for several years in different businesses in the automotive field.
Why did you choose this sort of work?
I am extremely passionate about the automotive industry, working on vehicles and helping others. It was a perfect fit to pursue my own repair facility while giving me the opportunity to work with customers directly.
What do you like best about your work?
Owning my own business has given me the ability to work directly with customers and their vehicles. We love that we are able to do what we are passionate about every day.
What advice would you give girls who want to get into your field?
I would recommend to any girl that wants to enter this field to never give up. Gain experience within the field and even though it can be tough working in a male dominated field, if it is something they want to do they should pursue it and find other women in the field to team up with.
What is an example of something you’ve had to overcome to get to where you are now?
I have been challenged in many ways to work in this field. I have been told I won’t ever fit in, I care too much about customers and I have been told no one wants a woman in the shop. All of those types of challenges have come up but they motivate me to do even better. Overcoming the stereotypes only shows younger girls that they can do it too.
