Wunderfrau Interview: Alison Magnuson – The Local

Alison Magnuson – The Local

Owner

What do you do?

At The Local we pride ourselves in selling handcrafted items created by artisans all throughout Wisconsin. We have over forty different makers selling a variety of products, all made with love.

What education, classes or training were helpful to you?

It was always a dream of mine to open a shop, and after having my daughter, now three years old, I knew I needed to show her that anything is possible and to always chase your wild and craziest dreams. As I started to look more into pursuing this “someday dream”, I noticed all the right people began coming into my life. One person being Romey, my now mentor, who pushed me to take the entrepreneurial boot-camp that he puts on. By doing that I was able to open the doors to my dream shop.

Why did you choose this sort of work?

My husband and I are a couple who are passionate about all things locally made, inspired by our three-year-old daughter and powered by our faith and trust in God. That is why I chose to take this leap of faith…

What do you like best about your work?

I LOVE being surrounded by talent each and every day! The relationships I have made with our makers and others in our community leaves me with a sense of joy I previously didn’t know I was missing.

My hope for everyone who stops by our shop is to leave with a full heart and to be inspired.

What advice would you give girls who want to get into your field?

If there is anything you take away from our story we hope it is to continue to chase your wild + crazy dreams! You never know what will happen by taking that first leap, big or small. Pray hard, set big goals and stay true to yourself and to your dreams.

Thank you Alison Magnuson!
