Katie Rosenberg – Marathon County Board of Supervisors
What do you do?
I currently serve on the Marathon County Board of Supervisors. I am one of six women on a board of 38 – but I am super pumped that we have an opportunity to add several women this year. I’m focused on issues related to health and human services like the nursing home, aquatic therapy pool, opioid epidemic, childhood opportunity and development. But with the recent changes to the metallic mining law, I am working to make sure we preserve our natural resources for generations to come.
In my ‘real job’ I work in marketing at Foot Locker, Inc in Wausau. I make sure we’re talking to our teenage athletes and telling their stories.
What education, classes or training were helpful to you?
I have a BA in Philosophy and I think that’s helped me understand how other people believe and think. It’s also helped me identify faulty logic in my own thinking – or others 😉
I also have a Master’s in Strategic Communications and I think approaching policy-making with honesty, transparency, and openness helps bring the community along with decision making.
I took a canning class once but I am still kind of nervous about it.
What do you like best about your job?
I am going to approach this from the county board side. I LOVE seeing how a group of committed people can change life for generations. The aquatic therapy pool project is one of those where people, policy, and persistence come together for the good of the community.
What advice would you give girls who want to get into your field?
– Do your homework. Read everything in the packets. Ask questions in meetings, even if it feels weird. Find a mentor to talk through things that don’t make sense. Be committed.
– Don’t give credence to online trolls.
Thank you Katie Rosenberg!
